Artist Statement
"As an artist-educator-researcher, my art is grounded in social practice, seeking to shed light on contemporary issues, cultural traditions, and the stories of people affected by them. As an emerging artist, I began with my own family members as a way of understanding who I am and my place in the world. My work, mostly prints and mixed media pieces, is a visual narrative of the people, places, and traditions that influence my life. I combine both images and words in my work to tell a story. A story that many who have viewed my work find both inspirational and familiar, for it tells the story of everyday life that many people understand and have experienced. I have coined the term Artstories to describe these visual intergenerational narratives."
