My work starts by looking at historic influences from Kenyan and Ghanaian wood carving and incorporating them into the vision I have for the piece that I am working on. How artist during the diaspora carved images into drums and into wood canes has always fascinated me. Images of African women, their hair and their clothing, dominate the headboards, doors, and other pieces of art that I create.

My name is Harolyn D. Lambert Andrews from Pensacola, Florida. I graduated from Queens College in Flushing, New York and now teach art at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland.
