LOIS MOORE BLACKWELL is a former Ford-Rockefeller-Kellogg Fellow who received her doctoral degree from The George Washington University in Higher Education. Lois studied commercial design at Howard University, College of Fine Arts at the Master's Degree level. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in textiles, and apparel design from Howard University.
As assistant professor, her experiences include instructing the fashion arts, textile chemistry and interior design at Morgan State College and The University of DC. Lois served as Community Coordinator of The Multi-Arts Program at The Duke Ellington School of The Arts in DC. As Adjunct Assistant Professor in English, Lois taught expository writing at The George Washington University. During her formative years Lois Moore Blackwell, an educator of textiles, clothing, design English and visual arts taught others to create and express their inner aesthetic. Upon retirement from education, Lois began crafting her personal techniques in the world of apparel design and visual art.
Lois has participated in the Art Impact USA art exhibitions: "Light of The Ancestors of the African Diaspora" 2015, "Funk Parade - Art Expo" 2015 and "Carnaval: Celebrations of the African Diaspora" 2016. She has also featured artworks at Howard University Gallery of Art, The All-Island Art Show on Martha's Vineyard and Fells Point Arts Festival in Baltimore.
One of Lois' paintings, Dream Counsel is featured in the "Transcending Boundaries" Exhibition Catalog - Tri Mission Art Gallery, May 2016, Embassy of the United States of America -- Rome, Italy. She is a sponsor and has chosen to share her artwork with the Italian art scene.
Statement
"We yearn and dream just like our parents and grandparents. During our growth and developmental process, we are constantly assessing our own abilities that will be used in our future physically, emotionally, socially, and academically. We want our dreams to come true. I used the flat brush and knife technique to achieve this abstract design with kids in mind, making them first priority all the time."
