The colors in "Heart Dazzle" represent the vibrancy of Carnaval and the heart represents the love of culture of people of African descent. Look closely and all kinds of images will emerge including a fireworks canon, masks and colorful faces none of which were intentionally drawn by the artist.
About The Artist
Artist Statement
“Heart Dazzle” is inspired by Carnaval (Junkanoo) in Nassau Bahamas, the homeland of my paternal relatives. It represents my love for color and color is the foundation for all Carnaval celebrations regardless of which country of the Diaspora.
Bio
Sabrina Dames is a journalist with a passion for art. Her interest in painting began in elementary school in Washington, DC. , her birthplace. A teacher was impressed with one of her drawings and put her in an after school art program sponsored by the Corcoran Gallery. She has taken classes at the Maryland College of Art and Design and the Art League Alexandria, Virginia/Torpedo Factory Art Center. She loves to paint abstracts.
Sabrina has always had an interest in art . She thought about being a doctor but didn't understand high school physics and chemistry. English was her best subject so she chose a career in journalism . She has worked for BET News, CBS, CNN, WJLA-TV, WTOP Radio and The Pentagon Channel. She has journalism degrees from Howard University, Washington, DC and Columbia University, New York, NY.
