This piece is intended to look very arrogant and cocky, which is the opposite of who I am. As a King, to whom much is given much is required. It's about remaining humble. “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5 NIV) I want be respected, loved and remembered because of my character and not for what I acquire in this life.
About The Artist
Artist Statement
My work is intended to evoke the same emotion as a poet would with words. Combining realistic and illustrational approaches to figure with spray paint, occasional collage and mixed media, I invite viewers to have a personal experience and their own sense of connectivity with the art. Social matters, political, spiritual, economic, and faith-based themes are prevalent in my work, by which I use my art as a tool to voice my thoughts and opinions on these topics.
My work reflects the influences of art history, portraiture, abstract expressionist art, surrealism, graffiti, and illustration. Portrait and figurative works consist of highly stylized two-dimensional backgrounds that are infused with rhythmic shapes and patterns accompanied by unique urban hieroglyphs and African influenced symbols. The juxtaposition of these symbols suggest unconscious and conscious thoughts, while representing various emotions, strength, faith, power, life influences, and life itself. My work portrays the beauty and imperfections of these themes.
