About The Artist
Artist Statement
My work acknowledges and incorporates the ancient, universal use of symbols, colors, placement, shapes, directions; the presence, sequence and quantity of any given combination of objects, artifacts and omponents in ways that are always intentional which can be experienced on many different levels by the viewer. My approach to making art acknowledges and honors synchronicity, observation, contemplation, and discernment as they manifest across cultures, time and space, and the role of art in teaching, healing and being a vital aspect of one’s life and as spiritual and physical beings
I am inspired by the natural symmetry and cycles of the Earth, and the ways in which relating to this vital force informed the perspectives and actions of those and who found sources of power, grace, and strength from one another and the Earth’s stories and lessons. As an intuitive artist, the narratives of southern folk artists who felt compelled to make a statement and share their vision have influenced the use of materials and
themes in my work. I reference the work of Betty Sayre, Barbara Chase-Riboud, Renee Stout and Martha Jackson-Jarvis; Michael Platt and Carol Beane have spurred me on my journey as well.
I employ a number of different objects in my compositions: oxidized metal, botanicals, wood—mostly old and discarded-- in all its various states, discarded objects, and found treasures. The search for and discovery of the materials is an important phase of the work.
