Statement
Chloe’s Ascension was inspired by the Artist’s search for her Maternal Ancestors and her incessant longing to bring voice to their existence. Arena’s vision comes from the belief that she is the daughter of many daughters born into a chaotic world where “Her” existence, like theirs, is Strangely seen.
As the daughter of a very talented Artist, Arena learned to draw and paint under the guidance and direction of her Father. Her medium of choice for this particular piece is Acrylic; and, she considers her work unfinished and is currently working on an additional painting to complement the one that you are currently viewing.
Arena is deeply rooted in the History of this City and has historical ties to the White House. Arena is the GGGreat-Granddaughter of two former slaves that quickly became prominent Washington D.C Residents--Arthur Simmons and Alice Maria Robinson. Arthur Simmons was hired as the White House Doorman under Lincoln and continued to work as a Federal Employee under ten different administrations.
Ascension of Chloe is in recognition of those that gave Arena her own Voice, and a tribute to the place where some of her Ancestors first gained “Freedom” —Washington, D.C.
