About The Artist
Artist Statement
The majority of my work are paintings are done from photos he has taken. I took this opportunity to work in another one of my favorite mediums, pen & ink. It's a very minimalistic drawing with straight black ink to suggest the multiple array of colors the could make up the ethnicity of Black. Incorporated with in is an African cloth stitched to the body. The figure is giving a flower to a barren tree that is still rooted in place. This is to show how the displaced have much to offer in the growing of an area, while still looking for it's roots.
Bio
Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, G. Nigel’s career began early. At age 10 hewas mentored by another artist. A year after graduating High School, G. Nigel was accepted and started school at The Corcoran School of Art. A year there, he found himself in New Jersey taking classes at NYU. After a year in NY he finally decided to further his education in photography at The School of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He completed his education and did a stint as a photo-assistant. He realized he needed a more hands on medium, and needed to go back to his roots in art. This time G. Nigel got into the painting program at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Now living in Baltimore he practices his craft, utilizing both his painting and photography skills.
