Ida Mitchell
Ida Mitchell’s discovery into art began in Philadelphia, PA at an early age. She is a Commercial and Fine Arts graduate from NOVA in Alexandria, VA. In addition, she has studied Art and Design at the Fleisher Art School and Temple University in Philadelphia PA. Mitchell’s current works are a blend of contemporary and abstract images using acrylic paints on canvas. Her work contains a medley of colors created in various tones, movements and textures.
Mitchell continues to research and explore paper and canvas, in a mixture of paints and colors. Mitchell has participated and sold her work in several regional venues, group exhibits and festivals. Her work has been seen recently in Washington, DC – Pepco Edison Plac Gallery, BWAC Gallery, Brooklyn, NY, Arts on N Street, Touchstone Gallery, as well as a solo show in Bowie, and Hyattsville’s Arts festivals.
I painted in oils, just a little, but most of my work is in acrylic. I do some mix media work in sand, ink and spray paint. I am devoted to exploring, learning and experiment with other medium and techniques. My process in creating not only through sketching, but just starting on a blank canvas and feeling my way while painting, sometime seeing images and expanding on this.
How do I feel about my art? I’m amazed at some of the painting that I have created and how it developed through its different stages. It is hard for me to judge my work when I am fully engaged in creating. I am exploring, seeing different images, colors and using different strokes in order to achieve the level where I am satisfied enough to paint my signature.
