Desi Meade has a multicultural West Indian heritage. This wonderful blend of cultures, has enriched her perspectives about life. She has been fortunate enough to have had rich artistic experiences, since her early childhood. She can recall feeling empowered in preschool, when she created a vase, out of a paper cup, beans, and paint. It was at that moment, she realized that through art, she was able to express her thinking freely, and transform her ideas into something which could be shared with others.
She presently teaches advanced curriculum to elementary school students. Arts integration is the centerpiece of the learning environment she establishes for her students. Ms. Meade also enjoys writing poetry, and has written a children’s book. She is hopeful that her art will continue to provide a source of joy, hope, and inspiration to others. |
This series was inspired by my childhood, in the beautiful West Indies. My paintings are designed to inspire the viewer’s imagination. Art is the archetype which embraces, reflects, unifies, and transforms cultures. It also transcends time, and allows itself to be interpreted by the viewer.
